Malta: "abortion is always murder"” “

“Abortion is and shall always remain the murder of an innocent person, in whatever case”. The Maltese bishops reaffirm the point in a communiqué published in recent days with regard to the recommendation of a Committee of the United Nations Organization, which asked the Maltese State to review its legislation on abortion to consider whether provision can be made for exceptions in some cases such as the possibility of therapeutic abortion or abortion in the case of pregnancies resulting from violence and incest. “The right to life of each innocent human being is an essential condition for a civil society and its legislation”, write the bishops. And they add: “If a law deprives a category of human beings of the protection that a civil law has the duty to provide, the State is repudiating the equality of everyone before the law”. It is unacceptable that the UN Committee for Human Rights should be putting pressure on the Maltese State to legalize abortion in some circumstances”. “We bishops – says the communiqué – encourage the Maltese people to remain steadfast in their defence of human life, from its conception, and in their total rejection of abortion. We also encourage the representatives of our people to continue not only unreservedly to reject abortion, but also never to cease in their defence of life and in their rejection of the killing, through abortion, of persons totally unable to defend themselves”.
