Spain: ETA terror blasts condemned” “

Bishop Jesús García Burillo of Ávila, together with the whole diocesan curia, have expressed their “profound sorrow for what has happened” and strongly condemned “the explosion of bombs that have completely destroyed a bar in Ávila and caused damage in five other Spanish localities in recent days. The attacks – fortunately without victims – were announced in advance and claimed by the Basque extremist group ETA. “The bomb blast in Avila – says a press release put by the curia – tried to produce psychological damage on a day of national character”. The signing of the Constitution was in fact celebrated in Spain on 6 December, and because of this the Castilian city was thronged with visitors and tourists. The alternative to this situation is that of “fortifying ourselves in the unity of peace-loving people and trusting in those who guard over our security”, with the “absolute conviction that terrorism is not the way to achieve any kind of objective”. Faith in Jesus, says the curia of Avila, “will help us to overcome the painful trials that interrupt our daily tranquillity”.
