Slovenia: the bishops’ assembly” “

The Slovenian Episcopal Conference met in general assembly in Ljubljana on 6-7 December 2004. Various questions were debated. They included the confirmation of the current president of the episcopate ad interim, Msgr. Franc Kramberger, until the expiry of his term. The new metropolitan archbishop of Ljubljana, Msgr. Alojz Uran, was elected as vice-president. Msgr. Anton Stres was confirmed as chairman of the Commission for relations between the Catholic Church and the State and the Rev. Jožko Pirc as rector of the Slovene Pontifical College in Rome. The bishops discussed the chaplaincy service within the Slovene army and in prisons. They took note of the messages prepared to mark World Invalids’ Day and World Aids Day, and have documented themselves following the indications of the Pontifical Council for People on the Move for the celebration of World Migrants Day. The assembly also confirmed the organization of the International Biblical Congress due to be held in Ljubljana in 2007, during the Year of the Bible. The various international meetings held in recent months were also reviewed. In particular the bishops discussed the recent CCEE plenary Assembly in Leeds and the meeting of European and African bishops in Rome.
