The meeting in Portugal is the 27th of the Taizé Community. Its aim is to “prepare youth to be promoters of peace and reconciliation, to resist a spiral of sadness, and make them accessible to the sources of faith”. During the meeting the mornings will be spent in the some 200 parishes of the city, while in the evenings the youth will congregate in the Park of the Exhibitions for common prayers in 20 different languages. The youth of various nations have decided to take part in the meeting: 700 Ukrainians, both Catholic and Orthodox, and a similar number of Lithuanians, for example, have already enrolled. In the meantime some Taizé brothers are touring Europe to prepare the young by organizing meetings, such as the “Nights of Light” in Germany. On 2 January the Taizé Community will congregate in the Monastery of Jéronimos, again in Lisbon, where a mass will be celebrated, during which Frère Roger will give a meditation. The service will be transmitted on RTP and France 2. For further information: 00.351.21.944.93.13 www.taize.fr
