Slovenia: appeal of the bishops” “

“In the days between Christmas and New Year we participated with great sorrow in the suffering and tragedy that struck hundreds of thousands of people in South-East Asia due to the massive earthquake and the tsunami that devastated the area. The Slovene Episcopal Conference has invited the faithful and all people of good will to provide financial support, as far as they are able, to Slovene Caritas and to the other aid organizations that are collecting funds for the relief of the victims of the disaster”. That is the appeal to public opinion launched by the Slovene bishops in a message released to the media in recent days, following the tragedy caused by the tsunami. “On Friday 7 January 2005 – Father Andrej Saje, spokesman of the Slovene Episcopal Conference, told SIR – we reported that Caritas Slovena has collected the sum of 212,500 euro and that the collection of funds will continue also in the near future”. Current account forms for contributions to the relief fund were also made available in all parish centres and post offices on Saturday 8 January.
