CEC: reception of the Charta Oecumenica ” “

The Conference of European Churches (CEC) has expressed its “joy” for the signing of the Charta Oecumenica by the Swiss Churches on Sunday 23 January, in the course of a ceremony in which the general secretary of the CEC, Keith Clements, also took part. The CEC representative stressed the importance of the Swiss event which has put back on the agenda of the European Churches the process of the reception of the Ecumenical Charter signed in Strasbourg in 2001. “Since then – said Clements – it has been translated into more than 30 languages. It has been studied and discussed throughout Europe, at all levels, from local parishes to theological seminaries. It has been officially signed by the leaders of the Churches at the national level in Holland, Germany and Hungary. Now the Swiss Churches have further enriched and reinforced this process, with the signature of their leaders on the text”.
