The social communications office of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference has announced it recently sent a letter to the editor in chief of the Italian daily “La Repubblica”, with some corrections about an article the paper had published on 29 January 2005 commenting on relations between the Church and the Spanish government. The letter points out that the meeting between Father Juan Antonio Martinez Camino and the journalist who wrote the piece did not take place in recent days, as the paper had suggested or implied, but on 3 December 2004, hence previous to the events to which reference is made in the article: Father Camino’s statements “were used as if they were a recent interview”.
