“According to the results of some opinion polls published by Croatian agencies it emerges that 70% of the population is happy about this choice”, says Father Zeljiko Tanjic, professor of fundamental theology at the University of Zagreb, in a briefing to SIR. Father Tanjic underlines the importance of the name chosen by the new Pope. “Benedict he says evokes what is tantamount to a programme for the pontificate. I think that one of the priorities of the new Pope will be how to transmit the faith in a secularised society like that of Europe. St. Benedict is one of the patrons of Europe and the Old Continent represents for the whole Church a test bed of no little account”.
