We need to work more closely together to improve the life of the citizens of Glasgow, said the archbishop of the Scottish city, Archbishop Mario Conti, during the traditional mass for civic administrators held in the church of St. Aloysius on 19 June. In his homily, Archbishop Conti declared his appreciation for “the efforts being made by the municipality to ensure harmony, participation and citizenship which he regards as the “necessary prerequisites to prevent any form of racism”. “The Church, for its part he added shall not cease to cooperate in the achievement of these objectives, at the service of the inhabitants of Glasgow”. Conti, on the same occasion, announced the opening of a centre with thirty places for the mentally ill in the Drumchapel area of the city, where the parish of Pius X was recently closed and combined with the neighbouring parish of St. Lawrence. “Our commitment in this area does not stop there said Archbishop Conti and the opening of this centre confirms our determination to proclaim the Good News to everyone in need”.
