Control of the frontiers between EU states ” “

Closer cooperation between the police forces of the member states of the European Union, especially with a view to the control of the frontiers, and a reinforcement of the Schengen accord, is proposed by a decision adopted by the European Commission on 19 July. The decision will now be subjected to the scrutiny of the EU Council of Ministers. The proposal is aimed at achieving closer operational cooperation, structural coordination and exchange of information between the local authorities and the police forces in question. In particular, the provision is considered essential for so-called frontier regions, where disputes arise every day about problems of jurisdiction and territorial competence.
