A million euros to help the victims of the fires that ravaged the country this summer have been made available by the Fundaçao Gulbenkian and assigned to Caritas and to other aid organizations. The beneficiaries will be the families most seriously affected by the fires, to contribute to their survival, the reconstruction of their homes and the revival of their livelihoods. Other urgent reconstruction projects, informs the diocesan Caritas of Leiria one of the zone most devastated by the fires have been realized in the area of Souto da Carpalhosa and Colmeias. It is expected that Caritas in Leiria will fund the construction of at least 14 new homes of various types, depending on size of family.
