Ecumenical celebration for the police” “

For the first time, Catholic priests and Evangelical pastors involved in the spiritual care of the police forces in southern Bavaria have organized an ecumenical service. The service was held in recent days in a building of the company that runs the motorways on Autobahn A92. The congregation consisted of traffic police who patrol the motorways in the Munich area, ambulance staff, members of the local fire brigade and staff of the Autobahn company. The Catholic priest in charge of the pastoral ministry to the police in southern Bavaria, Andreas Simbeck, concelebrated together his Protestant counterpart, Hilda Schneider. “These men and women often find themselves confronted with extreme situations”, said Simbeck. And “responses derived from personal faith and mutual support are important” in helping them to cope with these emergencies. During the service, daily situations relating to the work of these people were linked to biblical passages. Prayer was especially dedicated to the victims of road accidents and the first-aid teams that come to their rescue.
