“Where two or three are gathered in my name” (Matthew 18:20): that’s the motto chosen this year by the Churches of Ireland at the request of the international committee composed of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that, as each year, will be held from 18 to 25 January. The Irish Churches says a press release issued by the ecumenical organization “Churches together in Britain and Ireland” intend by this choice to focus the meditations of the Week on the theme of forgiveness as way of reconciliation. “Forgiveness explains the Rev. Mary Hunter is extremely important in Ireland where all our communities have suffered deeply”.
