Ireland: the way of reconciliation” “

“Where two or three are gathered in my name” (Matthew 18:20): that’s the motto chosen this year by the Churches of Ireland – at the request of the international committee composed of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity – for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that, as each year, will be held from 18 to 25 January. The Irish Churches – says a press release issued by the ecumenical organization “Churches together in Britain and Ireland” – intend by this choice to focus the meditations of the Week on the theme of forgiveness as way of reconciliation. “Forgiveness – explains the Rev. Mary Hunter – is extremely important in Ireland where all our communities have suffered deeply”.
