“The signs of the time invite us to rediscover in a new light the gift of the sacrament of reconciliation. It is unfortunately being given inadequate consideration today”, but is, on the contrary, “one of the privileged ways for the formation of conscience and the Catholic consciousness”, declared the Bishop of Vilkaviskis, the Most Rev. Rimantas Norvila, during his intervention to the 11th ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on: “The Eucharist: source and culmination of the life and mission of the Church”, now being held in the Vatican (2-23 October). Deploring the decline of the practice of confession, Bishop Norvila “underlined the importance of the sacrament of penance”, which “brings us closer to Christ” and helps to “create deeper bonds with the Church”.
