England: in memory of frère Roger” “

A celebration in memory of Frère Roger, killed by a mentally deranged woman on 16 August this year, was held in Westminster Cathedral on 14 October. The act of remembrance was promoted by “Churches together in England”, the ecumenical organization that brings together the main churches in England. It took place in the style of prayer characteristic of the French community founded by Frère Roger at Taizé, alternating hymns, prayers and moments of silence and reflection. The participants, apart from hundreds of youth from all over the country, included the Anglican Primate, the Rev. Williams, and other exponents of the various Christian and Orthodox churches in the UK. The Catholic churchmen present included Monsignor John Arnold, who read out a recollection of the founder of Taizé written by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor. The connecting thread of the celebration was the Gospel passage on the disciples at Emmaus, read in various languages.
