Strategies for Africa” “

One of the priorities of the European Union takes the form of cooperation in development for Africa. At the end of an extraordinary meeting between the EU and the African Union (AU), the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal with the title “EU Strategy for Africa”. It defines an action plan in support of the efforts being made by Africa to achieve the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations”: a genuine “ten-year strategic partnership for security and development” between the EU and the AU, based on a series of priorities that the document defines as “needs”: peace, security, effective governance, interconnection, social cohesion, and economic sustainability. Two main challenges for the Union were spelt out by the Commissioner for cooperation Louis Michel: “solving the problem of immigration and ensuring a coherent approach between 26 different players, the member states and the Commission, which pursue 26 different policies of aid to development”. http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/development/body/news/news_en.htm#1
