The local Committee of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (Aee3), due to be held in Sibiu from 4 to 9 September 2007, was set up in the Romanian city on 17 October, in the presence of the two General Secretaries of CCEE and CEC. The local Committee consists of nine members representing the various Churches present in Romanian territory: the Orthodox Church, the Evangelical Churches, the Latin and Greek-Catholic Church. Two coordinators will ensure liaison with the international preparatory Committee for Aee3. Among its various tasks, the local Committee will handle: the logistics of the Assembly, relations with the local Churches, relations with the Romanian press and mass media, the reception of participants and the awareness raising of Romanian dioceses in the event. The establishment of the local Committee was also the occasion for the two General Secretaries of CCEE and CEC to meet leaders of the local Churches and of the local authorities, who demonstrated great interest and willingness to contribute to the realization of the ecumenical meeting. In the eyes of the CCEE-CEC delegation, the city of Sibiu, which will be European capital of Culture together with Strasbourg in 2007, appeared like a huge building site. In this way the city in Transylvania is preparing to host the cultural and religious event of Aee3 which it considers the highpoint of the celebrations in 2007.
