The sixth “National Parents’ Week” ends today, 26 October. It’s an annual event promoted in Leeds by some 60 representatives of Catholic dioceses and ecclesial movements in the country, with the aim of “making the churches ever closer to families” in conformity with the three-plan of the English episcopate “Celebrating Family”. The theme chosen for this year’s Parents’ Week, “How to build a friendly and domestic Church”, was intended to offer “some guidelines on how to achieve this objective by reviewing the tough times as well as the happier moments that each family experiences within its own life”, explained the person in charge of the project, Elizabeth Davies, calling for “more family-friendly, welcoming parishes”. The first Parents’ Week was organized in 2000 by the national institute for the family that operates within the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
