“DräiSchrëtt” (three steps) is the title of a new pastoral project in Luxembourg. Continuing the initiative “Church 2005”, it was introduced by Archbishop Fernand Franck of Luxembourg, immediately after the end of the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne. Presented in a pastoral letter in September and published on the website (www.cathol.lu) of the Catholic Church in Luxembourg, the project is aimed at deepening the three sacraments of Christian initiation, Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. “In these sacraments writes the archbishop man is incorporated in Christ and becomes effective member of the Church”. An important part of the project is based on the realization of 57 pastoral communities. “Many projects says the letter have been begun, but a lot still remains to be done”. A precise programme of work derives from this: “From here to 2008 each year will be dedicated to one of the three sacraments and placed in relation with the corresponding symbol, water, earth, fire and air. Three steps need to be taken: opening oneself, sharing and growing”. According to the archbishop, “opening oneself is a fundamental attitude. Man must open himself to be able to receive the gift of faith. The gift is always an invitation. Christians are witnesses; they must not hide themselves. Opening oneself means participating actively in the building of a more human, freer and more sustainable world. From opening oneself to sharing and receiving the step is short”. How should we receive the families that ask for the sacraments for their children? How should we share our faith and the life of the community with them? And how should we accompany the adults who wish to form part of the Church? “Everything that has a beginning replies the archbishop must grow and develop if it is not to die. These three steps are hope: they give us strength and incentive to grow in a more joyful and stronger faith”.
