A new auxiliary bishop has been appointed at Ljubljana. He is Msgr. Anton Jamnik, hitherto director of the St. Stanislaus Institute in the same archdiocese. Benedict XVI nominated him to the post in recent days and assigned to him the titular see of Vina. Born in Ljubljana in 1961, Jamnik was ordained priest on 29 June 1987. He has worked on the state Commission for philosophy programmes since 1996. He has been a member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1997, and has chaired the state Commission for state examinations (on philosophy) since 2002. He has also been a member of the Commission for relations between the Catholic Church and the Republic of Slovenia and serves on the editorial board of the journal of spirituality and culture “Tretji dan”.
