Year of vocations, reorganization of the general secretariat and a revamped website: these are some of the questions discussed by the Swiss bishops during their last ordinary assembly (the 270th) held at Delémont from 5 to 7 December. Encouraged by the success of 2005, the bishops have decided to dedicate also 2006 to vocations. This time, however, the reflection will be focused not on the priesthood, as in 2005, but on such vocations as diaconate, religious life, lay commitment and volunteer service. A website (www.vocations.ch.) has been set up to offer advice and ideas. Again at the level of the new technologies, the assembly announced a new website for the Bishops’ Conference (www.sbk.ces.cvs.ch). It will be richer in information and services; particular care will be devoted to the section for youth ministry which offers the young the chance to dialogue directly with the bishops. As far as the reorganization of the general secretariat is concerned, it was decided to hold a competition for a press officer. Various appointments were also announced, including the members of the Women’s Commission within the Bishops’ Conference. The date of the next assembly was also fixed: it will be held in Villars-sur-Glâne from 27 February to 1 March.
