The Catholic bishops of Belgium have published a 365-page calendar with a prayer for every day and have succeeded in selling 30,000 copies within days. It’s a “book” that has become a genuine bestseller and at the same time a bibliographic rarity. According to reports in the Belgian press, there are no plans for a reprint. In any case, a reprint would only hit the bookstalls in February, and that would be too late. The calendar is just one of a series of initiatives taken by the Belgian Church to celebrate 2006 as ‘year of prayer’.
