The CEC secretary for the Third European Ecumenical Assembly, the great ecumenical jamboree of the Churches of Europe that will be held in Sibiu, in Romania, from 4 to 8 September 2007 (following up the previous assemblies in Basel and Graz), is a woman: Beate Fagerli, a 36-year-old Norwegian of the Lutheran Church. Her appointment was announced by the Conference of European Churches, specifying that the secretary will have the task of superintending and coordinating for the CEC the implementation of all the organizational aspects of the Assembly and its preparatory process. She will also liase with the various partners involved in the organization of the event, in particular with the secretariat of the CCEE (Council of the Bishops’ Conference of Europe) and the local committee in Sibiu.
