The first meeting of Jews, Christians and Muslims that would give rise to the local IFG (Interfaith Group) was held at Fontenay-sous-Bois on 16 March 1991, in the presence of then mayor Louis Bayeurte. Meeting together to understand each other and enter into dialogue: that was the objective of the promoters of the initiative, which is celebrating its fifteenth “birthday” this year. The past fifteen years have been marked by 28 public meetings and the regular publication of a magazine, “L’Olivier”, which tackles such questions as the Word of God (revelation, the prophets and the reading of scripture), the rites and practices of the three great monotheist religions, and current affairs (in particular violence, fanaticism, secularism and the commitment to peace). To mark the fifteenth anniversary of its foundation, the IFG is holding an evening debate on the theme: “Jews, Christians and Muslims, three cultures for what projects?” on 9 March (Civic Centre, Fontenay-sous-Bois, at 20.30). “The aim of the meeting explain its promoters is to highlight what are the real projects of each of these religions in favour of human life”.
