Germany: Ecumenical Day in Munich” “

The Ecumenical Day ( Kirchentag) of the Churches in Germany will be held in Munich in 2010. The announcement was made on 1st March by the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) and the organizers of the German Evangelical Kirchentag (DEKT), jointly responsible for the organization of the event. The official invitation should be considered as a significant step in the further planning of the meeting. The ZdK and the DEKT had already agreed on a second ecumenical meeting after the conclusion of the first Ecumenical Day of the German Churches, held in Berlin in 2003 and attended by over 200,000 people. But so far an official invitation was lacking. It has now been formulated by the local Churches. “The “hosts” of the second German Ecumenical Day will be the Bavarian Evangelical Church and the archdiocese of Munich-Freising. Cardinal Friedrich Setter and Evangelical Bishop Johannes Friedrich will formally present the invitation to the President of the ZdK Hans Joachim Meyer and the President of the DEKT Reinhard Höppner in Munich on 10 March.
