A free online training course to learn to create a Catholic website has been promoted by the Italian Catholic Webmasters Association (WeCa) and presented to the national meeting of directors and staff of diocesan offices for social communication, under the title “Communicating hope”, held in Ancona in recent days. The online course has been designed by academic staff at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and by Catholic experts of the web. It can be followed at home and consists of 8 teaching modules. Those who successfully complete it are awarded the first level WeCa certificate. The association has also launched its new website (www.webcattolici.it) – from which the online course can be accessed -, together with its “Guide to the Web. Ten Commandments for Internet and Minors”. The guide is a cartoon text (aimed at families, schools and communities) that the association publishes on its site in various formats. Recognized by the “Directory of Social Communications” as an important institution in the mission of the Church, WeCa is the first European project aimed at pooling the know-how and experience of Catholic webmasters. There are now over 10,000 Italian Catholic websites.
