Spring Day in Europe: school projects” “

“Spring Day in Europe forms part of the necessary debate on the future of Europe, since it is aimed at those who will have to concern themselves with the Union in a few years’ time”. Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the Commission, charged with the task of raising citizens’ awareness, presented “Spring Day in Europe” on 20 March. It’s a campaign targeted at children aged between 7 and 17, and aimed at establishing “a dialogue between pupils, their teachers and some representatives of EU institutions on the vision of the EU and of its future”. The project, launched in 2001, is held from 21 March to 9 May (Europe Day), “simultaneously in the schools of member states, candidate countries and other European states, including Norway, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland”. This year’s theme is: “Debating our Future”. The activities offered to schools (which must register with the organizers through the Commission website or the offices of the EU)www.springday2006.org also include “simulated exercises of formulating political decisions, and conversations and actions relating to European values”.
