Portugal: unusual vocational ministry

Jazz concerts and marketing techniques for the vocational ministry: that’s the idea of the Portuguese religious on the Commission of Vocational Ministry (CPV), who have decided, in their contacts with the young, to “get to know the situations in which they live and to use their languages”, explains Sister Margarita Ribeirinho, CPV delegate of the Confederation of Portuguese Religious Institutes (CIRP). “Marketing – she explains to the Ecclesia Catholic press agency – is a technique that may help to conduct an analysis of the situation and organise strategies to achieve better results”. A concrete example? The logo of the CPV is the simple letter “V”, the initial letter of the word “vocational”, meaning “a person completely free and open to receive the word of God”. During a meeting of the Commission held in recent days at Fatima, the religious also held a jazz concert with the presence of the jazz school of the Hot Club of Portugal. “It’s important – emphasises Sister Margarita – that those who intend to devote themselves to the young should be familiar with the situations in which they live and work”.
