Ccee: meeting of general secretaries in Slovenia

The general secretaries of the 34 Bishops’ Conferences of Europe will meet at Ljubljana (Slovenia) from 24 to 27 June. The meeting is taking place at the invitation of the Slovene Bishops’ Conference and its secretary, the Rev. Andrej Saje. Various questions are on the agenda: collaboration between the Bishops’ Conferences in Europe in urgent pastoral areas, such as immigration, mass media, relations with Muslims in Europe; questions linked to ecumenism, in particular the developments of the process preparing for the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (Sibiu, Romania, 4-9 September 2007); and the growing presence of the pentecostal, evangelical and free churches. The general secretaries of the Bishops’ Conferences will also reflect on issues linked to the process of European unification, especially the debate on the Constitutional Treaty and the research programme of the European Union. Part of the work, lastly, will be dedicated to a discussion on current affairs in the life of the Bishops’ Conference: Church-State relation and trafficking of human beings. A final communiqué will be issued at the end of the meeting.
