France: Christian Churches for a ceasefire

“An immediate ceasefire, so that the populations and the victims of the two fighting parties may be helped”. This is asked by the Council of the Churches of France (Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox), which, in a release, “firmly condemns the use of strength and violence and asks the fighting parties to negotiate a peaceful solution”. “The use of violence – reads the release, signed by the presidents of the three French churches, card. Jean-Pierre Ricard, pastor Jean Arnold de Clermont and metropolitan bishop Emmanuel – can only aggravate tension and embitter the hearts of both sides. This region of the world, that has been tortured for generations, now needs peace more than ever”.
