“Migrations” are “one of the problems connected with globalisation and unfair trade”; this is why “a theology of fair peace is needed”: it was said by Fernando Enns, member of the Central Committee of Wcc (World Church Council), during the meeting of the Committee that ends tomorrow September 6th in Geneva. Migrations and commitment to a theology of peace are the priorities of 2007 for the “Decade to overcome violence” (Dov), promoted by Wcc and called “Churches in search of reconciliation and peace 2001-2010”. The motto chosen for 2007 “Make me a channel for your peace”, went on Enns with reference to the global war against terrorism, “is a sign that the overcoming of violence is a spiritual journey”. For Geiko Mueller-Fahrenholz, coordinator of the International Ecumenical Convocation for Peace due in 2011, “commitment to peace must be placed at the heart of the life and work of the Churches; if it may sound naïve – he added – then the Gospel too is naïve. Violence cannot disappear but it can be overcome every day by doing good”. And in the meantime, at the Dov where the next September 21st is the World Day of Prayer for Peace, addressed to all the churches of Wcc, an ecumenical network composed of 348 Protestant, Orthodox, Anglican churches, for a total of over 560 million Christians.
