An appeal to “make public one of the most precious and confidential secrets, that of faith in Christ, is the aim of the national campaign entitled “Dying to live… for the cause of the Gospel”, launched in recent days by the Catholic Church of England and Wales, through its agency CASE (Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation), set up by the bishops in April 2004 to support dioceses, parishes and groups in the work of evangelization. CASE has already sent over 4000 kits to parishes and religious communities; the kits contain a poster, materials for children’s liturgy, and a catalogue of “resources” for evangelization. “Jesus Christ was not afraid to say who he was – said Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster – and to share his message with anyone he happened to meet, even if this might lead to suffering, rejection and death. In our time we too, as Catholic community, must do the same, each in his own way. In the spiritual sense we must all be ready to ‘die to live’ so that the message of the Gospel may be heard anew in England and Wales. On Sunday 17 September the English Church is being invited to pray in support of all its efforts of evangelization.
