“The current review of regulations relating to the EU telecommunications market is of crucial importance for competition, investments and growth in Europe”, declared the European Commissioner for the information society and the media, Viviane Reding, on presenting to the press last week three studies commissioned by the Executive to examine legislation in the field of digital communication in Europe. The studies – that follow the Communication of last June reviewing the EU regulatory framework for networks and services of electronic communication and the latest proposals of Brussels to improve competition and establish a single market of wireless communications – tackle the main aspects of the reform: “growth and investment in the EU sector of electronic communications, regulatory framework and state of art of competition on TLC markets (narrow band, broad band, mobile telephony)”. The findings of the studies represent a further contribution to the debate on the reform of telecommunications in Europe as part of the public consultation currently underway.
