The proposal of Prime Minister Tony Blair to identify even before birth the children at risk of delinquency, because they come from “dysfunctional families” and therefore could become a threat to society, has raised concern in the pro-life movement in the UK. In Great Britain approximately a million adolescents decide to have children in very difficult social and economic conditions, but according to Anthony Ozimic, spokesman for the “Society for the protection of the unborn child”, one of the most important pro-life organizations in the country, identifying even before birth children that run the risk of delinquency would convince social workers and medical staff of the need to guarantee and promote abortion. According to Jim Richards, head of the “Catholic Children’s Society”, instead of proscribing unborn children, the State should guarantee an adequate service of support for so-called “families at risk” in which the vicious circle of delinquency is repeated from generation to generation.
