A delegation of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference visited Hungary, at the invitation of the President of the Hungarian episcopate, Cardinal Péter Erdo. Cardinal Josip Bozanic, Archbishop of Zagreb, head of the delegation, and Cardinal Erdo gave a press conference on the meeting on 13 September. The two bishops’ conferences regularly meet for bilateral meetings. Last year a Hungarian delegation visited Zagreb. This time Budapest welcomed the Croatian bishops. On Tuesday, after the meeting with President of the Republic László Sólyom, during which discussion also touched on the integration of Croatia into the European Union, the bishops visited the campus of the Péter Pázmány Catholic University at Piliscsaba, north of Budapest. The Croatian bishops in fact plan to found a Catholic university in Zagreb in the near future. With regard to their respective Hungarian and Croatian minorities and the pastoral service to them in their own language, Cardinal Erdo spoke of the intention of both Churches to train mother-language priests for minority communities. Replying to the questions of journalists, Cardinal Josip Bozanic said that the Croatian Catholic Church also supports the country’s integration in Europe.
