Comece: meeting on migrations

“Migration in an interconnected world: what impact on the European Union?” is the theme of a debate promoted by the Commission of the episcopates of the European Community (COMECE) to be held in Brussels on 3 October. The speakers will include Bishop Nicholas Di Marzio of Brooklyn, member of the Pontifical Council of Migrants and of the Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM), and Jean-Louis De Brouwer, of the European Commission’s General Directorate of Justice and Internal Affairs. A few days after the meeting a seminar promoted by COMECE with the network “Initiative of Christians for Europe” on “the Treaty of Rome fifty years after. What values for the European Union?” will be held at Clermont-Ferrand (France), from 9 to 11 October. Lastly, the congress to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome is due to take place on 23-25 March 2007; in preparation for it COMECE has established a committee of 25 wise men with the task of drawing up a report on the values of the European Union.
