Cec: “towards a new energy age”

“Living in a new energy age” is the theme of the 6th Assembly of the European Christian Network for the Environment (ECEN) due to open today, 27 September, at Flämslätt (Sweden) and end on 1st October. Some 100 delegates, activists and guests from all over Europe will meet to formulate responses of European Christians and Churches to the growing scarcity of energy, limited reserves of fossil fuels and the need for renewable resources, as well as to tackle the question of efficient energy management. The assembly provides an opportunity for an exchange of experiences and good practices by various countries. Climate change, water emergency, theology of the creation and education in the environment will provide the framework of the meeting, during which an examination of the “Time of the Creation” is also planned, i.e. a special period within the liturgical calendar of the Churches dedicated to man’s responsibility for the creation. The meeting in Flämslätt forms part of the preparatory process for the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (EEA3) due to be held in Sibiu (Romania) from 4 to 9 September 2007. ECEN, founded within the Conference of European Churches (CEC) is a network of delegates of the Churches dedicated to the protection of the environment.
