A “missionary bridge of prayer” is the initiative that the Pontifical Mission-Aid Societies of the Czech Republic are launching to mark this year’s Missionary Day due to be held on 21 October. News of the event is carried by the Fides international press agency. Eighty years ago Pius XI established World Missionary Day at the request of the general council of the Pontifical Works for the Propagation of the Faith, to be celebrated throughout the world on the last Sunday in October. It is devoted to prayer and to a collection in aid of projects of the Churches in mission territories. With its “bridge of prayer” the Czech Church is appealing to the faithful to “meet together in homes and in churches, light a candle, recite the Rosary or other prayer for the missions and missionaries, and thus diffuse the joy of the Gospel throughout the world”.
