Serbs and Albanians are cooperating in the reconstruction of the Orthodox churches destroyed in Kosovo in 2004. According to a report carried by the Austrian Catholic Kathpress agency, the reconstruction of the four churches has already been completed and the exteriors of a further seven churches will be reconstructed by the end of the year. The results were described at a briefing in Pristina by the Commission for the reconstruction of the Orthodox churches and monasteries destroyed during the civil unrest in March 2004. The chairman of the Commission, and expert at the Council of Europe, Emma Carmichael, said that reconstruction projects for a total value of 2.3 million euros were completed in 2006. The funds were allocated by the budget of Kosovo and administered by the Commission, composed of representatives of the Council of Europe, Serb-Orthodox Church, Kossovar Ministry of Culture and Serb Office for Monuments. The reconstruction programme for 2007 plans work on refurbishing/rebuilding a further sixteen churches and monasteries. Carmichael expressed satisfaction about cooperation with the Serb-Orthodox Church.
