Tens of thousands of young people from all over Europe will converge on Zagreb from 28 December 2006 to 1st January 2007 for the 29th European Youth Meeting organized by the Taizé community. “The time has come for us to take new steps in helping to build a future of peace, with young Croatians, their neighbours and youth from all over Europe”, said frère Alois, the Prior of Taizé. Frère Alois will speak each evening during the event in the Exhibitions Park in Zagreb which, for four days, will become a great forum of prayer and reflection. To mark this meeting frère Alois will publish a letter addressed to youth. It will have the title “Letter from Calcutta”, and is a follow up to the Taizé meeting that brought together several thousand young people in this great city of India in October 2006. In preparation for the event in Zagreb, several brothers of the Taizé community have travelled throughout Europe, meeting the young in Germany, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, Bosnia, Italy and France. The “Letter from Calcutta”, as also the programme of the meeting in Zagreb, will be available on the Taizé website a few days before Christmas: www.taize.fr
