Spain: a prayer chain

Chefs, cloistered nuns, artists, families and children: just some of the participants in the “prayer chain” of Ávila, in the land of Saint Teresa of Jesus, promoted by the diocesan Secretariat of Vocational Ministry. “The aim of the initiative is to promote prayers for vocations in a novel way – explains Conce Martín Pérez, Dominican Sister, to SirEurope -. We want to express a profoundly ecclesial sense that unites each person’s prayer to the community, and to the parish”. The participants were involved through e-mails, internet and text messages. Each person who expresses his willingness to participate writes by e-mail or by texting the time slot in which he/she promises to pray for vocations. “It’s a very simple activity and very open in the way it works: people can choose whether to pray alone or in a community, on a daily basis or just on one day each week”. Sister Conce believes in this idea: “The most important thing is animation and the involvement of the territory” in vocational ministry. If someone wants to pray but “doesn’t know how”, the organizers have made available suggested aids for prayer.
