Switzerland: a church “in common”

A Catholic church will be used as a place of ecumenical worship in Switzerland. It is situated close to Zurich, at Grafstal bei Kemptthal, to the south of Winterthour. According to the Swiss Catholic press agency APIC, the church of St. Joseph, the only one in the little town, will (from Saturday 6 January) be regularly used both by the Catholic parish of St. Martin and by the Reformed parish of Lindau. In future, if the parishes wish to do so, the church will also be used for common worship. According to the theologian Monika Schmid, in charge of the parish of St. Martin, what is at issue here is conceiving ecumenism not as an event, but as an integral part of the daily life of the faithful. So a common celebration of the two communions will be held at Grafstal on the first Saturday of each month, to the delight of the many mixed couples in the area.
