During a conference recently held in Geneva, the Reformed, Roman Catholic and Catholic-Christian Churches of Geneva and Vaud explained the sense of the ecumenical project that will bring an estimated 30,000/40,000 young pilgrims to the city in December. The ecumenical community of Taizé, which annually organizes youth rallies in late December, intends to mobilise the parishes on the shores of lake Geneva and France to provide hospitality for the thousands of youngsters from all over Europe seeking for the meaning of life and faith in Christ. The Churches of the Upper Savoy and the Ain are supporting the event. In the meantime, members of the Taizé community will soon begin to prepare the 30th European meeting by visiting the French and Swiss parishes of the area to invite them to organize the welcome and accommodation of the young pilgrims. The last evening of 2007, a prayer vigil for peace, will precede the great Feast of Nations marking the start of the New Year.
