Ruth Gaby Vermont Mangold made a two-day visit to Moldavia (5-6 February). She is drawing up a report for the Parliamentary Assembly of the COE on the disappearance of newborn babies and illegal adoptions. The journey also helped her to investigate some advertisements in the press aimed at young unmarried women wishing to sell their own offspring. “My visit, which led to fruitful exchanges of view with the various sectors involved, including the state authorities, was very positive – said Vermont Mangold – and for this I am grateful to my interlocutors. All of them share my objective to protect the newborn from illegal adoption, a complex and invisible crime. Nonetheless, before being able to reach a definitive conclusion on the situation in Moldavia, I need further information, also from other countries”. Publication of the report is expected by the end of the year.
