The 3rd European seven-a-side football championships for priests reached its conclusion at the end of last week with a contested penalty. The Polish team won the final match and was declared the champions, after defeating the home team from Croatia. Organized by the archdiocese of Sarajevo, together with the Franciscan Order, the contest involved ten national teams, Austria, Croatia, Portugal, Bosnia, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Hungary and Poland. It was Poland that won with a contested penalty, booed towards the end of the match, thus defeating the other finalist, the Croatian team, and being awarded the trophy. All the priests who participated in the championships were congratulated by Cardinal Vinko Puljic, Archbishop of Sarajevo: “also in this way priests have communicated the Gospel message to society”.
