“Marine and costal dimension of climate change in Europe: report for the European water authorities”: that’s the title of the Report published by the Common Research Centre (CRC) of the European Commission and presented in Berlin during the recent conference Climate Change and European Aquatic Dimension held by the German Presidency of the EU. The document analyses the consequences of meteorological changes and man-made damage to the natural habitats of European coastal waters and seas. It underlines a series of scientific and technological shortcomings and makes “political recommendations” aimed at rectifying a decidedly alarming situation. The origins of the alterations to marine environments are also due to the negative impact of human intervention in European coastal zones: uncontrolled fishing, energy production, trade and tourism disrespectful of the environment are all man-made factors indicated in the report as the main sources of danger for the ecosystems of European seas.
