The film based on the “Roman Triptych” of John Paul II, the cycle of meditations first published in 2003, simultaneously in Italy and in Krakow, is to be released in cinemas throughout Poland on 9 March. The book was officially presented by the then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, for almost 40 years private secretary of Karol Wojtyla, was present among others at the official presentation of the 65-minute film in Krakow on Sunday 4 March. At the premiere Cardinal Dziwisz emphasized that during Lent “the Meditations of John Paul II help us to look into our heart and are a great support to renew our relations with others; they especially help us to a deeper understanding of God the Creator and Redeemer, and of the destiny of each man. The maker and director of the film “Roman Triptych”, Marek Luzar, shot it in the “Anima Media” studios created by the Bishop of Bielsko Biala and Zywiec, Tadeusz Rakoczy. The images that accompany Karol Wojtyla’s text, recited in Polish by the well-known actor Krzysztof Kolberger, are underlined by the music composed by Rafal Rozmus. The film took three years to make, and was particularly demanding because it screens photographs from various archives of the 1950s and 1960s, transformed into a continuous narrative of life and of prayer. “In creating the film I has to find a way of conveying the hidden sense of the meditations”, said Marek Luzar.
