Patron of MPs

Our Lady of Consolation, a famous icon preserved in the sanctuary of Piotrkow Trybunalski, a little town in central Poland, was officially pronounced patron of Polish MPs at the end of May. The icon of the Madonna, the work of an Italian sixteenth-century painter, was crowned by Benedict XVII during his apostolic visit to Poland last year. The Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Mons. Jozef Kowalczyk, read out the pontifical decree in the sanctuary of Piotrkow. The image of Our Lady of Consolation was donated by the King of Poland Stefano Batory in 1580 to the Tribunal of the Crown, with its seat at Piotrkow Trybunalski, the first appeal court anywhere in Europe.
