The European Commission published (on 1st June) a report on the “public consultation on future European strategy in the health sector”. The report shows that EU citizens “support the EU strategy and aspire to increased cooperation between the Commission and member states to improve and better safeguard health in Europe”. The survey, which is based on over 150 replies sent by healthcare professionals and simple “users” to Brussels by the end of February, reinforces the Executive’s intention to adopt the new strategy by the end of the year. The priorities are as follows: measures to counter health threats, and correct inequalities, information and awareness raising of citizens in terms of quality of life and eating habits, and definition of legislative aspects linked to so-called “trans-frontier treatments” abroad.
