The statistics office of the European Commission (Eurostat) has published the data relating to unemployment in the European Union for April 2007. In the thirteen countries of the eurozone the rate dropped from 7.2 in March to 7.1% in April; the same figure was registered by the EU as a whole. The lowest unemployment rates were registered in Holland (3.3%), Denmark (3.4%) and Ireland (4%), the highest in Poland (11.2%) and Slovakia (10.5%). Twenty-two European countries have succeeded over the last twelve months in lowering their level of unemployment: worth noting are the results of Estonia (from 6.3% to 4.7%), Slovenia (from 6.4% to 4,8%) and Slovakia (from 13.6% to 10.5%). Hungary (8.2%) and Portugal (8%), by contrast, are at odds with the average EU trend. The data for female and youth employment are overall positive.
